This Association is dedicated to preserving the history and memory of the Naval Air Station (NAS) Fort Lauderdale, presently the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. We also want to preserve the history of the Naval Air Station Boat Facility, the Fort Lauderdale Navy Section Base and the Fort Lauderdale Coast Guard Station which were located in Port Everglades during the period extending from 1942 through 1946.
Over the past several years, Broward County, Florida has destroyed most of the buildings that housed NAS Fort Lauderdale during World War II.
The primary mission of the Association is to collect and preserve the history, documents and memorabilia connected with the NAS.
Our goal is to create a museum to educate the young, inform the general public and provide a spirit of camaraderie and remembrance for those who served.
Former President George Bush trained as a pilot at NAS Fort Lauderdale and returned in 1992 to autograph a mural adorning the main building.
And then there's Flight 19, The Lost Patrol, the now famous disappearance of the five TBM Avenger Torpedo Bombers and the PBM Mariner flying boat sent to search for them. Each year on December 5 a Memorial Service is held by the NAS Historical Association to honor The Lost Patrol and the nearly 100 men based at NAS who lost their lives from 1942-1945. And you're invited!
We need your help to accomplish our goals. Look around our Website. Learn some history. View the great artwork donated by reknowned artist Bob Jenny. Consider becoming a member and joining us in preserving this rich legacy.
