MEMORIAL SERVCIES

Each year on December 5, a memorial service is held by the Naval Air Station Fort Lauderdale Historical Association to honor the Lost Patrol and the nearly 100 men who lost their lives from 1942 through 1946.

The public is invited to this well-attended ceremony. Services are held at a small park set aside at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport that serves as a memorial of US Naval Flight 19. The site contains a tall monument mounted with propellers and a commemorative plaque placed there by the Broward County Women's Council of the Navy League of the United States.

Car and Plane A TBM Avenger and a classic 1940's car provide the backdrop for the commemorative ceremony.

Amid a parade of flags and banners, nearly a dozen different color guards from high schools, cadet corps, and veterans groups present colors as part of the annual exercises. The Coast Guard and the Navy participate. The U.S. Navy Sea Cadet Corps makes a valuable contribution. And, all enjoy the Army, Navy and Marine Junior ROTC.

We welcome all guests to join with us this December 5 for the ceremony and all related activities. Please visit this area of our website as we will be posting more news for this year.
